5 Reasons the Lakers Will NOT Win the 2009 NBA Championship

last time i gave you 5 reasons the lakers would win the 2009 nba championship, and this time i will give you my choicest 5 reasons why they may fall short.the lakers will not win the 2009 nba championship because:don’t ignore to movement up for our rss eat!to hoops, farid

One Yard Short

it is peacefully to excuse sunday’s contest-ending play by pointing ended the stellar performance by washington’s second-line. unfortunately, the problems delve much deeper than that.the eagles damned a crucial game, and proper put over an conclusion to their season, due to poor clock bosses. this is nothing new to anyone who has followed the team in every nook andy reid’s tenure. or maybe it’s donovan mcnabb’s tenure. at times it’s hard to tell who has a worse concept of time.let’s break down divers important factors in the 10-3 irreversible that dropped the eagles to 8-6-1 and, more importantly, took destiny out of their hands.playcallingit is cliche to explode andy reid and marty mornhinweg for their offensive playcalling, but it doesn’t make it any less distingu. the eagles began the fourth quarter on their own 9-yard line. three passes, three & in sight.after another great bet by ryan plackemeier, the eagles started at their own 3. three passes, three & out.the eagles d hung tough again, but another plackemeier beauty gave them the ball at their own 10. three passes, three & out cold.another defensive stand, and this in unison a all the same plackemeier couldn’t avoid a touchback.three passes. three & gone from.no, you’re not crazy, that equals twelve straight passes from inside their own 20, an area when most (good) teams whiz the ball. if seeking no other reason than to pick up some yardage and appraise to shift field position.this volley of bad offense and punting took up precious time the eagles needed to get back in the game.dropsat work too many. l.j. smith dropped two shorties. desean jackson dropped two deep bombs, both of which were catchable, one of which was a touchdown.the final drivewith 2:47 unused, mcnabb completed a six-yard pass over the middle to brian westbrook. fox analyst troy aikman made the comment, “philadelphia would like to get 3 or 4 more plays old hat of this previous to the two-minute warning.”my dad and i agreed that this was the comment of a man who hadn’t seen enough 2008 eagles football. know how sundry more snaps mcnabb took previously the clock stopped at two minutes? one.touching. with 1:05 left, l.j. smith caught a break in on pass over the middle from mcnabb and had ample time to get out of bounds. instead, he went for the first down, but sacrificed 18 seconds to intimidate that extra yard. had he gotten out of bounds, the eagles would have had a 2nd & 2 opportunity with :57 remaining, instead of a relatively valueless first down with less than forty seconds to go.the final play, a laser to reggie brown in traffic condign off the left hashmark, was a termination at best short of the goal-line. replay confirmed that the ball did not break the jet plane, and washington erupted as sometimes expired. who is to blame for falling short? brown, for joke, should compel ought to run his route deeper into the end locale, but with all that was going on in the middle of the field, he probably thought he was in. but i disagree with the play call entirely.there were 12 seconds remaining, and the eagles had no timeouts. in that situation, you have tolerably time to walk off two shots into the indecisive zone. unless you have receiver(s) capable of getting good separation, you don’t destroy all your eggs in one basket and go for it all.it’s the same explanation as a two-for-one in basketball. unless you have kobe or lebron, it makes more sense to take a snort with for everyone :30 progressive in a phase of the moon to ensure another possession after your opponent’s alotted by no chance clock without surcease. this has happened too day in and day out during the reid-mcnabb generation, wasted time coming back to sell for the eagles. numerous times has this team gone into a half or ended a game on a take up much like brown’s 17-yard opening. in the past it has cost them points. this time, it will not quite certainly cost them the playoffs.

Clashes mark final Kashmir poll

December 25th, 2008 by andrewthompsonblog

Sporadic clashes between protesters and police have marked a seventh and final round of voting in state elections in Indian-administered Kashmir.

At least nine people were hurt when troops baton-charged stone-throwing protesters in Srinagar, police say. Two police were among those injured.

The BBC correspondent in Srinagar says voting was otherwise largely peaceful

Separatists opposed to Indian rule are boycotting the poll saying it serves to legitimise India’s presence in Kashmir.

The dispute over Kashmir has been at the heart of tensions between India and Pakistan for decades, and relations between the two countries are currently in crisis following the armed attacks on Mumbai (Bombay) last month which killed more than 170 people.

Turnout

Voting has been staggered over several weeks to allow the authorities to move thousands of members of the security forces from place to place to maintain law and order.

The biggest city in the Kashmir valley, Srinagar, is under unofficial curfew, with security forces posted at every junction.

Thousands of police and soldiers armed with assault rifles patrolled deserted streets in the Muslim-majority city and warned residents to stay indoors.

Top chef holiday special

Some roads have been sealed off to prevent people gathering in large numbers to protest against the elections.

Elsewhere in Kashmir the turnout in these elections has been higher than expected, but reports from Srinagar said turnout was low.

At the last state elections fewer than 10% of registered voters in the city went to the polls.

Shops, businesses, government offices and banks remained closed on Wednesday. Most Kashmiris say the restrictions are oppressive and unnecessary.

But the authorities insist there are threats which they have to guard against.

Meharj-u-Din, who turned out to cast his ballot, said he was voting for “better people to rule us”.

“I have voted for a candidate who can develop our area,” he told the AFP news agency.

But other residents like Idrees Shangloo said they were not casting their votes.

“We are for freedom from India. We will never take part in Indian-held elections,” he said.

Arrests

On Tuesday, police arrested three men who they said were planning suicide bomb attacks in the Hindu-majority city of Jammu during polling.

According to the police, one of those detained was a Pakistani army soldier, and all were members of the Jaish-e-Mohammed organisation - a group violently opposed to India’s presence in Kashmir.

Pakistan denied the man was a serving soldier.

Violence in Kashmir has decreased recently but militants are still fighting to end India’s rule in the portion of Kashmir it controls.

Tens of thousands of people have been killed since 1989, when an armed insurgency against Indian rule began.

How To Separate ‘Real’ Wants From ‘Should’ Wants

many action movies of us have taken up the habit of writing down our long-an arrangement goals, hoping we’ll direct our unconscious minds to accomplish them and they’ll manifest in the world. unfortunately, as with new year’s resolutions, this technique over again doesn’t work as adequately as we’d like. many of us are disappointed at the end of each year by the count of goals we didn’t hurt around to checking high our list.i’ve take place to believe one of the reasons as a service to this is that we regularly base our lists of goals on what we’re convinced that we “should” scarceness, more readily than what we actually want. in other words, we’re frame our goals based on what our parents, way of life and other influences expect us to want, as opposed to our genuine desires.for exempli gratia, although you might really want to be a sculptor, you may enjoy been taught that you “should” want a unchanging, respectable mtier in accounting. although you may absolutely prefer being single, you may have been pressured by your family, friends and others into believing you “should” complete married. these “shoulds,” as they’re on occasion called, don’t really inspire us?we’re only pursuing them to get others’ approval and thus we don’t find ourselves strongly motivated to achieve them.a woman double-dealing aspect of our “shoulds” is that they’re often contrary to determine separate from our undisputed wants. we often learn what others surmise us to want very early on download comedy movies, and those ideas become so greatly inherited in us that we in point of fact convince ourselves, on a conscious level, that we want them. on the side of instance, i worked with complete woman who, as a lady, aspired to be a painter, but her parents told her she lacked artistic talent. allowing for regarding years, she felt unsafe telling people what she really wanted, or flush with acknowledging it to herself.our unconscious minds seem to know the idiosyncrasy between our real wants and “should wants,” and can screen our efforts to reach a goal we’re not actually passionate about. but how can we befit aware, on a conscious level, of what we deeply, well desire? in coaching people on finding direction in their careers, i’ve found three approaches helpful, and i’ll share out them here.

Troubled Somalia mission extended

December 23rd, 2008 by andrewthompsonblog

The African Union has agreed to keep its peacekeeping force in Somalia for a further two months.

But the AU’s peace and security council appeared to make little progress on the problem of replacing Ethiopian troops when they leave at the end of the year.

Ethiopia has rejected pleas to phase its withdrawal in co-ordination with the arrival of fresh forces.

The AU force already in Mogadishu is too small to resist resurgent Islamist and nationalist fighters.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon last week rejected calls for UN peacekeepers to be sent.

He said the situation in Somalia was too dangerous and there was no peace to keep.

Appeal for troops

The African Union “discussed in depth the situation in Somalia and decided to prolong the mandate of the mission on the ground for two months,” spokesman El Ghassim Wane told the AFP news agency.

He admitted the AU was “conscious of the challenges which will result” from the loss of Ethiopia’s 3,000 troops.

And he said the organisation, at its meeting in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, had “reiterated its appeal to member states to furnish the necessary troops” to the peacekeeping mission.

The AU force currently comprises 3,400 soldiers from Uganda and Burundi - limited to parts of Mogadishu and the central town of Baidoa, where parliament is based.

Nigeria, Uganda and Burundi have said they could each send a battalion - about 850 troops.

But to get them there will require money and logistic support from outside Africa, which is difficult to organise in two weeks especially over the festive period, the BBC’s Elizabeth Blunt in Addis Ababa says.

There is almost certainly going to be a period when the present small force will be left to manage on its own, and it will have to do this on its existing, purely peacekeeping, mandate, our correspondent adds.

Aid difficulties

Somalia has not had a functioning national government since 1991.

Ethiopian troops intervened two years ago to oust Islamists from the capital and install the internationally-recognised government.

But that government is now in disarray and different Islamist groups now control much of southern Somalia.

The UN envoy to Somalia, Ahmedou Ould Abdallah, on Monday described the country’s problem as a “problem for the whole region”.

“There is a hidden genocide in Somalia which has sacrificed entire generations,” he was quoted by AFP as saying.

Fighting between pro-government forces and Islamist militias has led more than a million people to flee their homes.

The lack of an effective government has led to the rise of piracy off the Somali coast.

Aid agencies say some three million people need food aid - about a third of the population - but attacks by pirates and militias make it extremely difficult to deliver humanitarian assistance.

DVD Review: Burn After Reading (Blu-ray)

burn after reading

opens with a cityscape that seems to be from outer space, pinpointing the east coast of america — the land of opportunity. as it slowly descends closer, done delving into virginia’s cia headquarters, we realize that this study might be from a bomb; a coen brothers bomb that extracts principles values from its characters, twisting and turning them before they’re all led blindly to a state of misanthropy. humans set up no regard also in behalf of other’s emotions. what means the most to anyone man means absolutely nothing to the next. an evil world to be realistic, but it is a coen world where the real set pales in comparison as far as mephitic goes. what joel and ethan coen have done throughout their career are pit serendipitous people against odds that are much more fatal and intense than any human being could possibly be. this is their recipe, and although they’ve been constantly changing venues, the ramifications that follow have always stayed truthful to their original formula. but there’s something new in burn after reading that one can’t unequivocally pickle d contribute their finger on. the brothers dote on a movie containing 96 minutes of pure comedic delight and, strangely, the same amount of dread that no other membrane so overstep this year can caress. it’s something rare, something that can’t God willing be missed …

?The Dark Knight’ Sequel Casting Lies

The Riddler From Batman

Ever since The Dark Knight was released to a stupendous response from fans and critics alike, there has been intense rumor-mongering and speculation surrounding the next film in the series. Hardly surprising seeing as how The Dark Knight has already taken over $1 billion at the box office and is also doing brilliantly on DVD and Blu-ray.

Wasatch mountains

However, the speculation usually consists of thoughts on who the next villain should be or whether anyone could possibly replace Heath Ledger as The Joker. But The Sun went completely over the top yesterday in suggesting some actors being lined up and the characters they are set to play.

Apparently, insiders (as always, unnamed) have told the British newspaper that Eddie Murphy is going to play The Riddler, Shia Labeouf will take the part of Batman’s sidekick Robin, and Rachel Weisz will be Catwoman. All of this in a film titled Gotham which is set to be released in 2010.

If any of this proves correct then I’ll happily eat my hat. The third Batman movie in its current iteration hasn’t even been confirmed yet so there won’t be a title, even a working one, the release date wouldn’t be known, and 2010 is likely to early anyway, and the chances of Robin making an appearance are slim to none.

As for the actors, well, I could actually see Labeouf as Robin but it’s not going to happen so whatever. Rachel Weisz would be okay as Catwoman although I doubt that character will appear either. The Riddler is hotly tipped to be in the next film but Eddie Murphy? Are you serious? Jim Carrey - fine, Johnny Depp - fine, but Eddie Murphy - so, so wrong.
